Story

Welcome to Last Night Together, a feature-length thriller set over one night, where long-married couple Mia and Ben Kingdom must fight to survive against mounting danger as secrets surface and their past comes back to haunt them. One night, one city, one couple... and a dead body.

We are Phil Viner and Luke André Jackson, collaborators and friends with a shared passion for storytelling. Phil is a crime writer and filmmaker, and Luke is an editor and filmmaker. Now, we're thrilled to present our first independent feature.

Background

Last Night Together is adapted from Phil's fourth crime novel, The Call, published in 2022 by Hera Books. Phil says, "I loved writing this novel. I could see it in my head – every moment of peril and every second of emotional turmoil for Ben and Mia. They are hounded through the night, shackled together by what they’ve done and a single moment of madness that threatens to destroy them."

The idea to work together emerged during a neighborly chat during the pandemic. Confined to our homes in Brighton during the first lockdown, we created Connected, a short dark comedy, using a handful of actor friends and Zoom. We had a fantastic time making this zero-budget project, and with a couple of festival awards under our belts, we knew we had to create more.

Last Night Together continues our exploration of themes such as dark confinement, exploitation, and the treatment of refugees. Set over one night — from midnight to 8 am — the story features two lead characters and a city that never sleeps, making it the ideal low-budget feature.

Look and Feel

Set in Brighton, where Luke and Phil first met, this vibrant and darkly beautiful city comes alive at night. It's a place where adventure and risk await.

Unraveling across one long night of escalating danger, we aim to create a claustrophobic and kinetic film, filled with long shadows, dark pavements, and a snaking camera that captures the truths and lies of the characters.

This low-budget production will be shot on digital cinema cameras, utilizing techniques and treatments that ensure a vibrant, cinematic look and feel. Empathetic editing combined with an uneasy score will keep viewers on guard and off balance.
